Key points to consider
Buying a new laptop is not always an easy task, especially since technological innovations keep coming and going, and brands all offer sometimes very different features to face the competition.
Below you will find the main characteristics to consider when buying your future laptop, which will give you a pretty decent idea of the product that will suit you best.
A laptop depending on use
Before even looking at the product sheets of the different laptops, you will first have to get an idea of the use you are going to make of them. Do you need a pc just for surfing the internet, chatting on social media, and watching videos? Or do you have more important needs such as for example use in the context of work (office automation, modeling, etc.), or even video games? Depending on your choice, the budget will increase.
Once this step is done and a very precise idea, you will know which components you will need to pay more attention to.
Screen size and definition
Screen size is a very important feature on laptops. Would you like to have greater reading / viewing comfort with a large screen or, on the contrary, to facilitate the movement of the PC with a smaller screen diagonal (reduced weight and size)? Laptop screen sizes typically range from 11.6 inches to 19 inches for the larger ones, but most of the time it’s between 13 and 17 inches.
For the definition of the screen, it is advisable to choose a screen offering at least Full HD (1920px x 1080px) so as not to be disappointed. The higher the latter, the better the quality.
Autonomy
For a so-called laptop PC, the battery is an extremely important criterion, especially if you want to move your notebook very often and use it outdoors, without a power source within reach. The greater the power of the battery, the greater the autonomy of your computer will be, it can vary from less than an hour to more than 10 hours depending on the models and the components they include.
The processor
The processor, also called CPU (Central Processing Unit) constitutes the heart of the computer, and will therefore strongly impact the performance of the laptop in general. It is thanks to this processor that you will be able to carry out daily tasks more or less quickly on your new laptop.
In terms of choice, it all depends on the use you are going to make with it: if it is only for office automation, there is no point in spending money on an overpowered processor which will spend its time “sleeping” , but if you want to play video games or make video edits, then this will be important and you will then have to choose a good processor, especially between Intel and AMD, which are the two leaders in the market.
The graphics card
In the entry and mid-range, laptops do not integrate a dedicated graphics card, they are content with an integrated chipset, moreover more than sufficient for normal office type use, surfing or even light video games on the latest models. On the other hand, certain uses require the presence of a dedicated graphics card, generally ADM or Nvidia, namely primarily video games but also for example video editing or modeling.
The connection
It has often happened that we realize too late that our new computer does not have the desired connectivity once at home. A missing HDMI port, no Ethernet port or an insufficient number of USB ports.
To avoid this situation, it is therefore important to check the device connections directly in the store or on a product sheet.
RAM
RAM, short for Random Access Memory, corresponds to the ephemeral storage of data. These data will be saved between two starts, but once the PC is turned off, they will be gone.
The greater the amount of RAM, the more fluid and easier your computer will have to use, and you will be able to use more programs at the same time.
Internal storage
The storage capacity of your computer is very important at two levels: its quantity (generally from 64 GB to several TB) and its type (mechanical hard drive or SSD type that is to say based on flash memory).
If you want to store many files, photos, videos, applications, video games … you will need a large hard drive of several TB for example.
If your budget allows it, we strongly advise you to choose a “hard drive” of the SSD type, the latter allowing to launch your files and applications much more quickly with a general fluidity of your PC greatly improved compared to a “classic hard drive” “(ie mechanical type with a read head and platters). For information, the access time of a hard disk is around 15 ms while that of a recent SSD is 0.1 ms!
An idea of the budget
The budget is still the most difficult subject to define. You will find everything on the IT market, from basic laptops for less than Rs. 20000 easily found in supermarkets to very high-end Apple products which can exceed Rs. 1,50,000.
